Let’s be real, we’ve all used AI to write a blog or two. The world rewards fast results and there’s no faster way to get work output than just turning to good old ChatGPT. In my former place of employment, we even nicknamed it, “Chad”. This is great for producing immense quantities of work, however, when it comes to SEO, quality outperforms quantity every day of the week.
What’s the problem?
So, you may be wondering what my basis for this claim is. Let’s cut to the chase and get down to the logical reasoning. There are many different aspects to writing SEO friendly content. You need good key phrases. Your blogs and content pages need to be a certain number of words. The body of your content needs to mention or include the key phrase a certain number of times and so on. There are too many aspects to list here, but one of the main criteria Google uses to rank your content is by it’s uniqueness. Yes, you heard that right! Unique content scores the highest.
So how does this relate to using AI?
Here’s the deal with AI generated web content. All AI models get there content from sources available on the web. They might get it from multiple sources and do some mix and matching to make it appear unique, but all AI content has previously been used before somewhere. Human beings might not be able to spot it with the naked eye, but the search engine crawlers are that rank your content can see it coming from miles away.
What’s the Solution?
I’m not saying you have to cease all operations that generate AI content, but if you have a blog on your website, try sitting down and writing one out the old-fashioned way from time to time. Trust me your website will thank you and your SEO rankings will thank you.
Let’s be real, I do use AI somewhat when building websites, but only as a guide. AI is a great guide and can steer you in the right direction, but if we use it for more than that, the results can suffer.
